The group Gorillaz is now performing in Fortnite

The creators of the «battle royale» Fortnite constantly invite popular artists to their project. This time, they arranged a collaboration with the most famous virtual group — its members usually perform as their cartoon alter egos, rather than live. The arrival of the musicians is not just about the soundtrack. Each of them adds something of their own to the game. Let’s take a closer look at the changes that came to the online shooter by the end of August.

You can listen to the music of the world-famous band on the main stage, which has been decorated in an urban style for the occasion. A tram line now runs above it, and the walls are adorned with graffiti. Festival participants now have assistance in a mini-game — the interface will indicate whether the notes are played correctly, and collections now allow sorting tracks by difficulty and duration. As for the musicians themselves, they’ve brought their own sets of items to the shooter. Lead guitarist Noodle contributed her favorite instrument, a mask, and an emote. Vocalist 2D shares sunglasses, a back accessory in the shape of a megaphone, special camouflage, and a microphone. Other themed items include a cloak and Murdoc’s bass guitar.

The group’s appearance marks the beginning of the tenth music season. Alongside Gorillaz’s music, tracks from other artists like Hanumankind and Stone Temple Pilots have been added to the game. Additional rewards beyond jam tracks are promised, and nearly all will be available for free — just a bit of creative talent is required. The developers remind us that the festival bonuses are not exclusive, so they may later be added to the virtual store’s inventory.
